Hayden sipped her coffee as she walked into the hospital. Great another day. . . she thought pessimistically as she walked over to the nurses station. Every day was the same; you walk in, you save a life, you walk out. You weren't a hero, people thank heroes. People never thank you, once they're fine enough to walk around freely, they're out the door.
The sounds were always the same; the nurses frail voice paging various doctors; the head supervisor and her usually folly of interns pranced around as they followed her like a twisted game of Follow the Leader.
Soon it would be Hayden's turn to herd and guide the lost sheep, also known as interns and she was scared. Very scared. She wasn't the most imposing person and she was scared out of her mind that her interns would walk all over her, but she was more afraid that she wouldn't teach them enough or do enough with them. But for now all she could do is sit down one one of the cushioned benches and wait to be paged.

Alice hurried in through the hospital entrance and over to the nurses station. Alice was perfectly happy; she loved her job, even though it was stressful and hard at times. She spotted one of her patients slowly heading towards the open doors for a morning cigarette. He was in hospital because of his illness, but still wouldn't give up. Alice smiled and waved to him, he was one of her favourite patients and she often spent time with him when she had a spare few minutes on her shift.
Alice wasn't looking where she was going as she reached the nurses station, and bumped into one of the doctors standing there - Dr.Hayden Bishop - spilling her cup of coffee. Alice gasped.
"I am so sorry!" she said, rushing to try and find some tissues. "I...I wasn't looking where I was going..."

Hayden looked at her brand new lab coat and let out a Why does this always happen to me? type sigh. She looked at the bumbling nurse and gave her a comforting smile; she had to hold her hand up to make her stop searching for tissues. "It's fine...I have about 100 of these" she laughed. "And that coffee wasn't that great anyways"
The other doctors around her looked at her disapprovingly; with that screwed up face of disgust as to say She spilled coffee all over your lab coat you stupid hippie?! As if Hayden was expected to be mean or something. But instead she was sincere with the words she spoke, as always

Alice blushed. All the other doctors around her were staring at the pair. Alice could almost feel their eyes boring into the back of her head. She expected Dr. Bishop to shout at her or something, but the doctor just laughed and told her not to worry.
"I feel really bad Doctor!" said Alice. "I really need to start paying more attention..." Alice wished that the ground would open up and swallow her at that moment, she was that embarrassed at spilling coffee on a higher member of staff. She stared at her shoes.

Hayden perked an eyebrow and smiled sympathetically at the not much younger girl. "It's fine.." she repeated; she didn't care about Halton's employee heirarchy, she just came her to get her work done. Not fussle over who was a doctor or not.
Hayden brushed a strand of auburn hair back and smiled once more. "Call me Hayden...it's my name" she smiled and laughed slightly.
Hayden smiled at the doctors around her who seemed to shun her like the plague as they walked briskly back. "Dr. Ramesh" she said politely to a 40 year old doctor who had hypocritically spilt coffee on another doctor the day before and looked on with disgust at Alice. Dr. Ramesh nodded politely and pressed the button on his pager, to ring his tone to act as if he was being paged. He rushed quickly by.

It was James first day and he was hoping to make nice with his new co-workers. The first person he saw he identified as Dr. Hayden Bishop. He knew of her from an article she wrote for the National Medical Journal about Cardiovascular Disease. James never realized how attractive she was. As these thoughts entered his mind he relized how unprofessional he was being and decided to go over and introduce himself instead of gawking like a teenager with a crush.
"Hello Dr. Bishop," said with a smile. "I'm James Weston. The new resident Cardiologist."

Hayden turned around with a bright smile, she had to blush slightly thinking of how ridiculous she looked to her colleagues with a coffee stain on her white lab coat. She didn't mind though, she had heard a bit about James Weston; he had caused stir among the higher ups when he first applied for residency here and Hayden had heard nothing but good things about him.
"Nice to meet you. . ." Hayden smiled brightly. "It's good to finally have another cardiologist who isn't old enough to be my father." she laughed.

"Yeah I know what you mean." James didn't want to be a pest so he decided to go get some work done. "Well it is my first day so I probably should go and try to get some work done," James said smiling. "I hope to see you around again soon. As for me I'm going to go do some paper work." Then he added "Yay," sarcastically.

'Dr. Weston. . . you dropped your perscription pad." Hayden laughed as she picked it off the floor and handed it to him. "You should be more careful. .. there's alot of patients here who would be more then happy to get their hands on one of these." Hayden smiled, she didn't want to sound too motherly; she was only a year older then James himself but she was senior to him, besides that she still laughed to show there was no hard feelings.
"You know. . . I was just about to get another coffee. . . " Hayden said matter-o-factaly. "Would you like to join me?" she asked slipping off her lab coat, the only thing she really needed at the moment was her ID card which she slipped off and clipped to the side of her pants.
